Gun Control PAC Is Formed

A prominent Republican donor bankrolled the newest political action committee dedicated to gun control on Capitol Hill.

Al Hoffman, an 83-year-old retired real estate developer from southern Florida, raised more than $600 million during former President George W. Bush’s campaigns in 2000 and 2004. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to Portugal from 2005 until 2007 and as finance chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Hoffman later pledged $1 million to Jeb Bush’s presidential bid in 2016 and ranked among the year’s most generous campaign donors overall.

But just days after the Valentine’s Day shooting in Parkland, Florida killed 17 and wounded 15 others, Hoffman warned the money would dry up for Republican candidates uninterested in banning “military style weapons” for civilian use.

“For how many years have we been doing this — having these experiences of terrorism, mass killings — and how many years is it that nothing has been done?” he said during an interview with the New York Times in February. “It’s the end of the road for me.”

Hoffman announced the launch of Americans for Gun Safety at the national March for Our Lives in Washington, D.C. last month. The group wants Congress to ban bump stocks and high capacity magazines, implement age restrictions for all gun sales, expand background checks and support mental health services — without infringing on the Second Amendment.

“Americans for Gun Safety Now! is honored to stand in solidarity with the thousands of students, including survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, to rally for change in our nation’s capital,” Hoffman said on March 24. “These students represent our next generation of leaders. Our new advocacy group is dedicated to supporting their courageous effort.”

The group’s website touts signatures from Florida Republican Reps. Carlos Curbelo and Brian Mast, among other current and former military leaders, government officials and business owners.

“I’m excited,” Hoffman told the Palm Beach Post last month. “So many people are signing on…I’ve called my old buddies, major donors. I said, ‘We’ve got to get something going.’ And here we are. We started an organization.”

He said the Florida Legislature’s package of gun reforms passed last month — including imposing a mandatory three-day waiting period and banning sales to those under 21 — would be “a good place” for the federal government to start.

“We want Congress to pass those same laws right now. And then move on to more comprehensive legislation soon,” he said.

Israelis are armed to the teeth and freely walk around, go to the beach and for bike rides with ARs and Select Fire REAL “assault rifles” (ridiculous term) as well as handguns; AND there are armed, trained staff in EVERY Israeli school, from Pre-K to University
USA jews have NO problem with that.
However, GAWDFAHBID that citizens…er, Goyim here get to “…Keep and Bear…” the means of self defense.

He’s a phony! Evidently was absent when his class studied the Constitution. If there were “practical” answers to many questions we wouldn’t need the Constitution. To paraphrase Ronald Dworkin,an indication of how much we value a right is whether or not we support it even if there is some social cost The 4th,5th,6th, 7th and 8th amendments fit the same category as the 2nd, maintaining them allows criminals of all kinds to be on the streets to commit mayhem and murder while awaiting trial and some don’t go to trial because of infringements of their constitutional rights. Try this on for size, old man, of the approximately 30,000 a year 68% are suicides, 15% are by law enforcement, and 17% are due to gang/criminal activity. Here’s another one for you, TWENTY FIVE PERCENT or all gun crimes occur in just 4 cities, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit and Washington D.C. And 54% of murders occur in a mere 5% of counties. Do you blame gun owners and the NRA for gang activity and rampant drug sales and use?

Hoffman is a gun hater and a Obama lover who would be very happy to see the US disarmed and be like other Countrys who have given their guns up and now Regrete that and can’t go back.

Military style weapons are fully automatic, spray the area with bullets and I used one in the military. The semi-automatic rifles that are for sale to civilians are NOT military weapons. The left is soooooo hard to try to make the American public believe that they are. For decades the mafia has been using one of the most deadly rounds known to man, the 22 in the back of the head which goes in and rattles around tearing up the brain. I do own a .308 which is a solid round, but when the social collapse happens due to the left, you need something like that for self protection of your home, food, water, etc……FOR PROTECTION……..NOT ASSAULTING INNOCENTS……Utilize the law that are and have been on the books to put these offenders away.

‘The semi-automatic rifles that are for sale to civilians are NOT military weapons. The left is soooooo hard to try to make the American public believe that they are.’

And that has been going on for almost thirty years now:

“Assault weapons — just like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearms — are a new topic. The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons — anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun — can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons.”
—Josh Sugarmann, Executive Director and founder of the gun control group Violence Policy Center (VPC), March 1989

We don’t have “military style” weapons floating around loose “out there”; AR 15s may LOOK scary to the leftist snowflakes; but they’re just regular, semi-automatic rifles, not military style that convert from semi-to full-auto at the flick of a switch. It’s time these crazies learn the difference!

This is the problem – The average citizen DOES NOT know the difference between a semi-automatic (rifles and pistols0 and are easy to convince that ANY weapon is an assault weapon by those that want All guns confiscated and destroyed. When people begin to be killed with knives(they don’t have any guns) will the gun grabbers insist all knives also be confiscated
to protect others from being killed?

I know; and to answer your question about knives, probably. Keep your eye on the UK; their death rate from knives has spiked recently: I expect a confiscation call there any time now.

There doesn’t need to gun control laws for law-abiding citizens. I am sick and tired of taking the rap and having my privileges attacked because of some crazy Act that had nothing to do with the law-abiding citizens. Why is it that one bad Act it’s going to take away my rights? We need to realize that the bad people, the Not So sane people the angry people, and just regular humans that have no self discipline or self respect will always be able to get a gun, a drink an automobile, a bat,a billy club, a knife, a chainsaw, a hatchet, a hammer, a rope, broken glass, to do harm to another. I can’t believe the people of the United States can be so taken in that this was the guns fault when it was the person holding the gun was at fault.
Do you people realize if they disarm America what is going to happen to us? You all better think about it cuz it’s not pretty!

Wendy – There were plenty gun control on the books to handle whatever came-up before O’Bummer. However if a person is intent on a crime, they completely ignore all laws. All these GUN CONTROL LAWS do nothing more than dis-arm the law abiding citizen who has no intention of doing something illegal leaving them at the mercy of the criminal.

Both “bump stocks” and “high capacity magazines” are actually protected by the 2nd Amendment — at least they are SUPPOSED to be protected.

And tell us, Al: what other rights in the Bill of Rights have a “minimum age”, “background check”, and “mental health check” required in order for a citizen to exercise?

Talk about Gun Control – There is a town in Illinois that is confiscating guns left and right. It is going to be interesting to see the outcome of lawsuits pending.
